College Scholarship Programs

Currently, two scholarship programs are available at the college level:


Logan County Solid Waste Management District College Scholarship

WHO IS ELIGIBLE.  Any student meeting the basic requirements and intending to focus in any of these areas of study, or related areas of study may apply for this scholarship.

SPONSORED BY.  The Logan County Solid Waste Management District and the Logan County Commissioners wish to support the college education of a promising county resident graduating from high school. 

To this end the District has established a scholarship fund to assist one high school graduate each year as he or she pursues further education through four years of college.

AWARD AMOUNT.  The scholarship award is for $2,000 toward tuition each year and is renewable for four years to recipients remaining in good academic standing in their college.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS. In addition to a strong interest in environmental studies applicants must be:

  • a resident of Logan County upon graduation from high school
  • a high school senior when applying
  • enrolled or anticipate enrolling in a two or four year post-secondary college or university leading to a degree
  • possess a minimum high school GPA of 3.0.

AREA OF INTEREST.  In particular the District would like to support study in areas of interest and importance to the solid waste management business; areas such as:

  • scientific research focused on solving environmental problems
  • environmental protection
  • waste reduction technologies
  • recycling technologies
  • land and resource conservation
  • environmental education
  • zero waste planning and implementation
  • studies related to global warming and climate change.

Keep Logan County Beautiful Committee
$500 College Scholarship

SPONSORED BY.  Keep Logan County Beautiful Committee

AWARD AMOUNT.  $500 scholarship

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS.  Awarded to one Logan County student to assist with post-secondary education.  The scholarship will be awarded in May each year according to the following criteria.

  • Resident of Logan County
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (high school or college)
  • Enrolling or enrolled in 2-year or 4-year post-secondary accredited school.
  • Majoring in environmental science or a related field with a plan to work on environmental problems, research, teaching, business management.

EVALUATION CRITERIA.  Applications are evaluated as follows:

  • Environmental involvement or interest, 40%
  • Activities and work experience, 25%
  • Goals regarding the environment, 20%
  • Financial need, 15%
