What is HaRM?
HaRM is a collection service for 'Hard to Recycle Materials' that can HaRM you & the environment.
In place of previous annual, one day, large scale, collection events, including the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day, the Electronics Collection Day, and in 2007, the Mega Collection Day, the District now conducts a “Hard to Recycle Materials”, HaRM Collection Service for residents.
What You Can Recycle at HaRM
HaRM Collection Service will accept the following materials from Logan County residents:
- Household Hazardous Wastes (this includes...)
- Electronics (this includes...)
- Lead-Acid Batteries (this includes...)
- Scrap Tires (this includes...)
- Used Motor Oil (this includes...)
- Used Paint (this includes...)
- Mercury (this includes...)
The District HaRM Collection Service will accept these items throughout the summer months, June, July, and August, on Wednesday afternoons from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Collection service will be available from June 7 through August 30 giving residents nearly 25 opportunities to schedule a time to drop off your materials. Collection services will operate rain or shine; the District has secured a drive-thru facility. The cost of this collection service is $5.00 per vehicle, with small additional fees on Scrap Tires only.

Household Hazardous Wastes
- Garden Products — fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, plant food, lawn treatments, bug sprays, poisons for ants, rodents, insects, wasps, or arsenic.
- Cleaning Products — bottled cleaning compounds, oven cleaners, degreasers, drain cleaners, wood & metal polish, shoe polish, fingernail polish and polish remover, engine cleaners.
- Chemicals — bleach, ammonia, pool chemicals, acids, bases, artists supplies, photographic chemicals, moth balls.
- Health care products — prescription medications in their containers, hair treatments.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
Bring these materials in their original containers.
All liquids must to be in sealed containers.
Pack materials in boxes keeping any liquids from mixing with other products or materials
Electronics
- Television sets (any kind), VCR & DVD players
- Computer Equipment — computers (desk or lap top), monitors, cables, mouse, printers, scanners.
- Home Office — copy machines, fax machines, telephones, cell phones, pagers, tape recorders.
- Small household appliances — toasters, microwave ovens, hair dryers, radios, small countertop, convection ovens, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, florescent light bulbs.
NOT ALLOWED
No large appliances such as stoves, refrigerators, hot water heaters will be accepted.
Lead-Acid Batteries
- Automobile batteries, motorcycle & boat batteries, other smaller lead-acid batteries found in emergency lighting.
We will also accept any type of smaller household batteries during this collection.
Scrap Tires
- Nine Tires Maximum. Residents may transport up to nine tires per load to the Collection Service Center by appointment.
- There is an extra fee for the recycling of
scrap tires.
Passenger tires are $1.50 each.
Pick-up, truck, or farm tires are $2.50 each.
All tires recycled through this service are transported to a shredding operation in Michigan where they are made into useful products. - Tires may be on or off rim.
Used Motor Oil
Oil includes motor oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, antifreeze, each in a separate, closed, leak proof container.
Used Paint
Paint includes latex and oil based paints, stain, varnish, shellac, turpentine, mineral spirits, linseed oil, water sealants, spray paints, cement sealants.
Please inspect your paint cans before bringing them for disposal or recycling. Solidified paint cannot be recycled. This can be disposed of with your household trash.
If a small amount of paint remains in the can as a liquid it can be dried by adding cat litter or saw dust, stir until lumpy and leave open to dry. Once dry discard with your trash.
Mercury
Please bring in any mercury containing device for proper disposal. Mercury is particularly hazardous to the environment and dangerous to infants, children, and women of child bearing age.
NOTE
Bring elemental mercury in a secure container. Bring other items such as: barometer, mercury switches, large farm mercury thermometers, candy thermometers, fever thermometers, and mercury containing batteries, double-bagged.
