After a year of planning and recent construction the Village of DeGraff and the Logan County Solid Waste Management District held a Grand Opening for their new, full-time, Recycling Center on June 4th.  Pictured are Mayor Gary Comer cutting the ribbon next to long time recycling advocate, Susane Smithers, along with fellow Council members Charles Bertschman, Sue Walls, and Gloria Armstrong, with Alan Hale, SWD Coordinator and Commissioner David Knight looking on.
For years faithful recyclers went to the Lions Park in DeGraff on Saturday mornings to bring in their recycling. Students and other groups helped manage that site. The new Recycling Center is expanded and offers greater services and convenience. The recycling center is always open for citizens. It is well lit and surveillance camera monitor all activities and act as a deterent to illegal dumping. Anyone can use the center to recycle corrugated cardboard, paper products, and household containers made of glass, plastics #1 & #2, and cans made of steel and aluminum. The site also hosts Pay-As-You-Throw trash service using the PAYT green bags sold at the site from a vending machine. A small building houses the vending machine and has slots into which residents can place plastic shopping bags and household batteries. Brochures describing services and how to use the center are in a brochure holder on the shed.
